Foodland Ontario
The Organic Council of Ontario identified a need for a marketing strategy for organics in Ontario. The Ontario Minister of Agriculture has ensured commitment from OMAFRA to assist OCO in acheiving these goals. OMAFRA will work closely with the OCO to develop a Foodland Ontario Organic brand for use by certified organic producers and processors in Ontario. There is still much to do but this commitment from OMAFRA is a significant step forward. The OCO will continue to work with OMAFRA towards a launch of a Foodland Ontario Organic brand. Check back for updates on the OCO progress on this initiative.
Until the details of the organic component, the Foodland Ontario logo can be used at no charge to Ontario organic growers, packers and processors. Foodland Ontario is expanding its mandate from a focus on produce to include a wider breadth of fresh products, including deli, fresh meats, dairy, baked goods, as well as fruits and vegetables. The Savour Ontario program is available to fine dining and vacation establishments, assisting consumers in choosing fresh Ontario products.
The Foodland logo can be used alongside the Canada Organic Logo to identify Ontario Organic Products, so long as the Foodland logo is not displayed more prominently than the federal organic legend.
