2017 In Review
As 2017 comes to a close, we at the Organic Council of Ontario are proud of what we have accomplished this year:
- We developed a private member’s bill to regulate the word “organic” within the province of Ontario to ensure a fair playing field and consumer confidence. The bill was co-sponsored by two parties and endorsed by over ten partner organizations.
- We developed an Ontario Organic directory to help you source inputs and ingredients, connect with other local organic businesses and to promote your business to the public.
- We collaborated on the Canada Organic Trade Association’s provincial report card that demonstrated the need for greater provincial supports in Ontario.
- We represented Ontario organic in over 20 mainstream and agricultural media outlets, including The Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail and CBC radio.
- We participated in the development of the National Agricultural Policy Framework to ensure strategic funding for the Ontario organic sector.
- We showcased our members at events and tradeshows throughout the province.
- We pushed back against GE Alfalfa yet again and supported the mandatory labelling bill.
- We asked you how we should Grow the Ontario Organic sector and created a plan to do it.
- We supported organic research and shared your input on the Canadian Organic Standards.
