We’re Hiring: Digital Marketing and Communications Coordinator
Duration: 6 month contract
Salary: $35,000 – $42,000 prorated, pending experience
Location: Open to candidates throughout Ontario, with preference given to those based in either Toronto or Guelph.
This position is funded by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada through the Green Interns program. To qualify, you must:
- be 30 years old or younger at the start of the project and unemployed or underemployed;
- have graduated from a university, college or CEGEP;
- not have participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy programs (that is, Career Focus); and
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Hiring is dependent on confirmation of funding.
About the Organic Council of Ontario:
The Organic Council of Ontario (OCO) is the voice for organics in Ontario. It represents Ontario’s organic sector value chains and has a membership of over 120 producers, processors, retailers and consumers and includes organizations such as the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario.
About the Job:
The primary duties of the Communications Specialist will fall into three main categories:
General Communications and Design:
- Continually improve and update the content, design and functionality of the Organic Council of Ontario’s main website;
- Design beautiful and incisive monthly e-newsletters with relevant information for our industry and consumer members;
- Monitor and develop our social media channels and content;
- Monitor relevant media and google alerts;
- Support the development of media releases and monitor relevant media hits;
- Improve internal communications systems (e.g. aggregate relevant stock photos, improve tagging procedures etc.)
- Set up and track communications performance metrics;
- Design online and print communications materials & infographics using graphic design software and/or online tools;
Ontario Organic Contributions Program Microsite
- Manage the development and design of a new campaign webpage and/or microsite for the Ontario Organic Production Contribution Program;
- Develop web tools and campaign site to solicit new contributors;
- Build education tools and infographics to illustrate how the program works;
Promotion, Marketing and Design Support
This position will support OCO’s program and projects with design, marketing and promotions support including:
- The creation of membership promotional materials, advertising and classifieds opportunities;
- Event promotion, sponsorship and registration;
- Fundraising and engagement campaigns;
- Business-to-business directory promotions and maintenance.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Is highly motivated and can work independently and in a team;
- Is passionate and knowledgeable about organic agriculture;
- Has 2-3 years experience with WordPress and/or other website development platforms;
- Has experience working with Mailchimp or similar online newsletter applications;
- Has experience managing multiple social media channels simultaneously including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (familiarity with Buffer or Hootsuite an asset);
- Has experience using fundraising databases and contact management tools;
- Has strong written communications skills and an eye for design;
- Has strong graphic design experience (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator);
- Has an understanding of the Ontario agri-food landscape (specifically with regards to organic);
- Experience with communications strategy, marketing and designing campaigns an asset;
- Experience with cloud file storage and sharing systems;
- Experience designing infographics an asset;
- Photography and video skills an asset;
- French language skills an asset.
