OCO is Hiring an Executive Director (Part-Time)
Job Title: Executive Director
Location: This position is open to candidates throughout Ontario but requires regular travel throughout Ontario and meetings in Toronto.
Reports to: OCO’s Board of Directors/ Executive Committee
Overall Function:
- To implement the strategic goals and objectives of the Organic Council of Ontario
- With the President and Executive Committee, enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions and strategic goals
- To make recommendations for the achievement of the Organic Council of Ontario’s philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives
- Enable and coordinate OCO’s public visibility, liaison, networking with media, the government, the public and the agri-food sector using him/herself, the President and Board members as may be efficient and effective
Visioning:
- Assist the Board with the leadership and visioning of the organization by developing long-range and annual plans, and with the evaluation and reporting of progress on plans
- Propose initiatives that will advance the work of OCO
HR:
- Determine contractor/staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery within the approved annual budget
- Oversee the implementation of the operational and human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions and employment agreements for all staff/contractors
- Liaise with the Board of Directors and staff/ contractors to ensure board needs are met and responded to in a timely and professional manner
- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
- Recruit, interview and select staff/contractors that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further OCO’s mission
- Ensure that all staff/contractors receive an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided
- Implement a performance management process for all staff/contractors which includes monitoring the performance of staff/contractors on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review
- Ensure that deliverables are met in a timely and professional manner
- Coach and mentor staff/contractors as appropriate to improve performance
Financial Administration:
- Work with the Board of Directors to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization
- Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization
- Respond to the Board of Directors and members regarding finances and program delivery
- Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board of Directors
- Prepare the annual budget for Board approval and manage expenditures and programs within the approved budget
- Responsible for sound management of day-to-day financial affairs
- Provide vision regarding overall financial health of the organization
- Ensure that personnel, donor and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
General:
- 10 hour work week, with some evening and some weekend work required
- Work from home office
About the Organic Council of Ontario:
The Organic Council of Ontario (OCO) is the voice for organics in Ontario. It represents Ontario’s organic sector value chains and has a membership of over 120 producers, processors, retailers and consumers and includes organizations such as the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario.
