Wrapping Up: Ontario Organic Day 2024
This year’s Ontario Organic Day took place at Queen’s Park on October 25th, and it was a big success! OCO’s went to Queen’s Park with the goal of establishing stronger connections and gaining endorsement from MPPs and government staff towards our pursuit of organic regulation and sector support for Ontario’s organics. We were able to meet with 14 MPPs, and OMAFRA policy staff, as well as 3 MPPs online, and discussed with them the potential and value of Ontario organics, the need for regulation, and stable funding mechanisms for organic associations like OCO. What we heard in response was positive feedback and indications of support and intention to help us achieve our goals! Following these meetings, we showcased and celebrated the bounty of Ontario organic food and drink at the Organic Day tasting reception, where we estimated well over 60 people in attendance at its peak. It was a memorable event for us, and for the MPPs and Queen’s Park staff in attendance – and being memorable was the goal, as we want to keep organics fresh in the Ontario government’s mind as an opportunity and priority. We are already starting to follow up with the connections we’ve made to keep the ball rolling.
