Organic Council Celebrates Organic Week with New #LoveOntarioOrganic Campaign

September 6, 2019  –  Canada’s National Organic Week is the largest annual celebration of organic food, farming, and products across the country taking place this September 9-15, 2019. To celebrate, the Organic Council of Ontario invites you to join their #LoveOntarioOrganic campaign, and recognize the contributions of the farmers, processors, retailers, and other members of the value chain who help bring organic food from field to plate.

“Not all local organic businesses sell at farmers’ markets,” says Carolyn Young, Executive Director of the Organic Council of Ontario. “We want to help connect customers to Ontario organic businesses and producers through this campaign and highlight the benefits of choosing local organic.”

For the first time, the Organic Council of Ontario is hosting tours to Ontario organic businesses to showcase their innovations, raise awareness about organic production methods, and build connections between customers and local enterprises. Events include a walking tour with food samples from local retailers in Roncesvalles, Toronto, as well as a winery tour visiting four organic wineries in the Niagara region.

For those who can’t join in person, the Organic Council is also hosting an online social media contest asking participants to share why they #LoveOntarioOrganic. The contest is open to Ontario residents and prizes include gift cards from an array of local organic retailers and farmers’ markets.

Eaters interested in purchasing local organic foods can look for the Foodland Ontario Organic logo, developed in partnership between Foodland Ontario and the Organic Council. To sport the logo, products must meet the Foodland Ontario Standards and be certified to the Canada Organic Standard.

#LoveOntarioOrganic builds on the national organic week campaign #ChooseCanadaOrganic, encouraging eaters to identify and choose organic foods and products grown and made close to home.
