SFCR Implications for Organic
The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations were published on June 13, 2018, replacing the previous Organic Products Regulations that govern organic agriculture in Canada.
These changes will affect many of Ontario’s organic businesses. The Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) recently published an overview of the implications of this policy change on the organic industry, and is encouraging stakeholders to voice concerns about the limitations the new regulations create. They have provided a letter template for this purpose.
Canada’s Treasury Board Secretariat is also conducting a review of the national regulatory process, which is ongoing until Sept. 15, 2018. You can send your concerns to regulatoryreviews-examensreglementaires@tbs-sct.gc.ca.
